Grease Trap Cleaning in Calgary

Complete cleaning of under-sink grease traps and in-ground interceptors for commercial kitchens across Calgary — pumped, scraped, inspected and documented, on a schedule that keeps you out of trouble.

Every commercial kitchen in Calgary that produces fats, oils and grease has a unit standing between its drains and the city sewer. When that unit is full, it stops separating grease — and the grease keeps moving. What follows is usually slow drains, then odours, then a backup during service, and eventually a conversation with the City about what went into the sewer.

Cleaning it properly is a specific job, not a general plumbing task. The grease cap has to come out, the settled solids at the bottom have to come out, the walls and baffles have to be scraped down, and somebody has to actually look at the internal components before closing it up. We do this work all day, only this work, and we leave a record of it behind every time.

Signs your trap is overdue

  • Sinks or floor drains draining slower than they used to
  • Grease odour in the kitchen, near the drains or outside around the lid
  • Standing water or visible grease at the interceptor lid
  • Gurgling drains, or water coming back up when the dish pit runs
  • No idea when the unit was last serviced, or no paperwork to show for it
  • A previous provider who pumped the liquid and left the solids behind

What every cleaning includes

  • Full pump-out of liquid, grease cap and settled solids
  • Walls, baffles and internal components scraped and cleaned
  • Inspection of baffles, tees, lids and visible plumbing
  • Unit refilled and returned to service correctly
  • Waste transported off site for authorized disposal
  • A service record with the date, unit and work performed

The visit

How the work goes

  1. 1

    Locate and open the unit

We find and safely open the trap or interceptor, note its type and approximate capacity, and check how much material is in it.

  2. 2

    Pump it out completely

Liquid, floating grease and bottom solids all come out. Leaving the solids behind is the most common shortcut in this trade and the reason units fail early.

  3. 3

    Clean and inspect

Walls, baffles and tees get scraped and cleaned, and we inspect the components while the unit is empty and visible.

  4. 4

    Return to service and document

The unit is refilled as required, the lid is secured, the waste leaves with us, and you receive a record of the service.

  5. 5

    Set the interval

Based on how loaded the unit was, we recommend how often it should be cleaned and put it on a schedule so it does not get forgotten.

Frequency

How often should a Calgary grease trap be cleaned?

There is no single number that fits every kitchen. A small under-sink trap in a high-volume kitchen can need service every two weeks; a large in-ground interceptor at a low-volume site may run a quarter or more between cleanings. What matters is that the unit keeps separating grease instead of passing it into the sewer.

Our estimator gives you a defensible starting interval from five questions about your kitchen and unit. We confirm it on site, because how loaded the unit actually is at the first visit tells us more than any calculation.

Grease trap cleaning FAQs

How much does grease trap cleaning cost in Calgary?

Price depends on the size of the unit, how much grease and solids have accumulated, how accessible the unit is and how often it is serviced. A small under-sink trap on a regular schedule is a very different job from a neglected 2,000-gallon in-ground interceptor that has not been pumped in a year. We quote on the specifics of your site rather than publishing a flat rate that would be wrong for most kitchens.

How long does a grease trap cleaning take?

A routine under-sink trap is usually finished well inside an hour. A large in-ground interceptor takes longer, depending on volume and access. We schedule the visit so the work happens outside your service window wherever possible.

Do we need to close the kitchen while you work?

Usually not. The unit itself is out of service while we clean it, so the sinks and drains connected to it should not be used during the work. Most kitchens schedule us before opening or after close so nothing is interrupted.

What happens to the waste you remove?

The material we pump out is transported off site for disposal at an authorized receiving facility. Your service record documents the visit and the work performed.

Do you clean the whole unit or just pump it out?

A proper cleaning is more than pumping the liquid. We remove the accumulated grease cap and settled solids, clean down the walls and baffles, check the internal components and refill the unit as required so it works correctly when your kitchen starts up again.

Can you take over service from another company?

Yes, and it is common. Tell us what you know about the unit and when it was last serviced. If records are thin, we will identify and document the unit on the first visit so you have a clean baseline going forward.

Do you handle emergencies?

If a trap is overflowing or backing up into the kitchen, call 587-332-2200 rather than sending a form — a phone call gets a much faster answer.
